Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actress and singer whose acting versatility earned her praise across many styles from period dramas to action and thriller. Johansson was the child of a film producer and architect. Her family was based in New York City. Hunter, her twin sister, was also born in the city of New York. As a young girl of just 7 year old, she started casting for commercials on television. She enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute shortly following and then went to the Professional Children's School, Manhattan to further her education. When she was a kid Johansson was in Sophistry alongside Ethan Hawke and made her movie debut at Rob Reiner's North at the time of 1994. Johansson later appeared on the screen in Just Cause (1995), her debut was in the form of Manny & Lo a coming of age movie about two sisters running away. She next earned critical acclaim for her role as a teenage girl who been injured in a horrific accident in The Horse Whisperer (1998) as well as further recognition for her role as the cynical teenage outcast Rebecca in Ghost World (2001).
